We got lucky today because the missionaries came over to share a message with our family. We have an elder from Finland who's been out 9 months and an elder from Utah who's been out 4 months. They are awesome, and they brought the Spirit with them into our home.
Guess what is a great way to support missionaries who are not your own? Write home to their parents and let them know what a great job their child is doing.
Wouldn't you love to get a letter like that in the mail if it was your son or daughter?
Umm, okay, I admit the missionaries thought it was a little weird when I asked for their home addresses. I hope they don't think I'm weird stalker lady.
I'm just kidding, I didn't know if it was allowed to ask for addresses or not, so I think I'll just give them the letters in a sealed, stamped envelope and have them address it. How much postage does it take to get a letter to Finland?!

Dressing Up
Suiting (or "dress"ing) up your missionary can be expensive. Those of you sending out a sister missionary might want to check out Sorella Bella, a website with, if not cheap, at least decently priced sister missionary skirts, all mission-appropriate in length.
They carry dresses, blouses, and accessories too :)

No Junky Trunkies
Okay, the opposite of a "greenie" missionary is one who's a little trunky - a missionary who will soon be leaving the mission field and is thinking of home.
But, there's still time to send something fun to your beloved missionary, and what better than a trunk full of love?
An actual trunk would be a little expensive to ship, but there are loads of trunk-like treasure chests that will serve your purpose just as well.
Now, what to put in that trunk? Well, your missionary might be having trouble focusing, so it's your job to help him or her out with that!
First of all, a nice batch of well-wrapped homemade cookies, just to show that you've got things covered at home!
Things to help your mish focus:
An energy bar (finish with energy)
A "Return With Honor" tie tack
A Book of Mormon with your testimony in for giving away
A picture of the Savior
Don't forget a personal letter, always the most important part of any care package!

All Things Green
Is your missionary a "greenie"? (That's Mormon-speak for a newbie missionary).
Then why not send him or her a care package full of things that are green? I'm thinking:
Green jello powder
Green candy - Jolly Ranchers, Starbursts, etc.
Spearmint gum
A green t-shirt for p-day (day off)
Green tie or scarf
Green scripture marking pencil
Green "writing home" paper
Green bookmarks
Green apples

Timing is Everything
All posts tagged Mission: Support are designed to help mothers of missionaries support their sons and daughters in their work.
It's all hearsay though! My oldest son is about to turn 18, so while our minds are definitely on preparing for a mission, I'm not experienced in the art of missionary support yet.
But I promise to troll the internet and squeeze info out of all my friends to bring you the best ways to support your missionaries!
My friend Kim H. gave me some good advice just yesterday, not about sending your kids out on a mission, but about when they come home:
If your child has a birthday that puts them on a timeline where they'll be arriving home from their mission just a couple weeks too late to start a new college semester, you can ask your stake president to find out if they can report for their mission a couple of weeks earlier than originally assigned. Many times this request will be honored, allowing your child to come home and be enrolled in college right away, rather than sitting around trying to figure out how to fill their time for a whole semester.
Of course, a job is a good time filler, too, but I'm all for getting that college education done as soon as possible! Life is sure to get busier as time goes on :)
I know some will disagree with asking for any changes to an assignment that's already been made, but my feeling is that if the change shouldn't be made, they'll just tell you no, and no harm done.
